The Miraculous Transformation of a Homeless Cat: Opening Eyes to Beauty
A fluffy cat on the street is starving, sick, and near ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ. His eyes are sᴄᴀʙɪᴇs and he is being eaten by ticks, finding any kind of food without using his eyes is almost impossible. But then his guardian angel got there Carmen Weinberg, the founder of Animal Friends Project Inc was ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴏᴋᴇɴ when he received it and immediately took it into care.
“She couldn’t even see or open her eyes because of the ticks. It was sᴄᴀʀʏ being out there because you couldn’t see it. She was alone and very thin because she couldn’t see the food,” Carmen said.
After giving it a clean bath, Carmen helped Cotton regain her strength by feeding her hearty meals, and treating her sᴄᴀʙɪᴇs with cream, coconut oil and antibiotics. Seeing as his tense body began to relax as the day passed, he was finally able to rest.
Cats like Cotton depend on humans for healing, because they don’t always ask for help, just waiting for someone to give it a chance.
The relationship between the pair grew stronger as Cotton began to feel that he was being given a second chance at life. The transformation is amazing as Carmen’s care and nourishment has healed his myriad health problems, but the day he can finally open his eyes again is a truly beautiful moment.
Carmen explained: “We thought he was ʙʟɪɴᴅ. The vet thought that even if his eyes recovered they could still be damaged, but that’s not the case. It was a wonderful surprise. His eyes are so beautiful.” With one bright blue eye and a pale green eye, Cotton has completed his transformation from a ᴅɪʀᴛʏ bony guy into a dashing, healthy cat. As great as anyone at getting his sight back, he got along so well with Carmen that she simply couldn’t give him up for adoption.
In the end, I saw how attached he was to me, she said. “I can’t bear to let him go through another big change. He’s been through a lot.”
Carmen’s advice is please don’t ignore them. Anyone can help animals. Many sick feral cats are friendly and it’s very easy to kennel them and take them to the vet, hundreds of community cats in the area need help!
